Title: Making it Safe for People to do Their Best Work

Abstract: Since the 1960’s, the field of OBM has done a tremendous job of documenting effective evidence-based procedures and techniques to improve performance at work. The research tells us what to do (clarify behaviors, give feedback, reinforce behaviors, etc.) but it does not tell us how to do it. In this presentation, Dr. Austin will discuss how to create the right environment for behavioral techniques (OBM) to work. One key part of this approach is creating psychological safety and removing threats (while maintaining accountability) so that people can feel safe and motivated to do their best work.

Learning Objectives:

1) Participants will be able to define OBM

2) Participants will know the three drivers of behavior

3) Participants will be able to broadly define psychological safety
